W W Mooney & Sons, Tanners & Curriers

W. W. Mooney & Sons is the oldest industry in Bartholomew county, having been established in Nineveh township, Bartholomew County, in 1837, by Edmund Mooney and his eldest son, William W. Mooney. Later, two other sons, James E., and Benjamin F. were admitted to the firm, and in 1858 the firm of W. W. and J. E. Mooney was formed, and in 1863, W. W. & J. E. Mooney established their business in Columbus and built a large tannery here. In 1877, the firm of W. W. Mooney & Sons was formed, being composed of William W. Mooney, and his two elder sons, Edmund & Thomas. In 1886, William A. Mooney, the president head of the business at Columbus was admitted to the partnership of WW Mooney & Sons. William W. Mooney died in March 1900, and Edmund in July, 1900, and in February 1905, the business was incorporated under the laws of the State of Indiana under the name of W W Mooney and Sons, Inc. William Mooney is the president of the Company; Thomas Mooney, who resides in Louisville, KY, is the Vice-President; A. Van den Ende is the Secretary; George P. Herndon, Superintendent; Richard A. Bearhope, Foreman Currying Department; and H. W. Marvin, cashier. The business is a large and a most successful one, and the Mooney Pure Oak Harness, Flexible Sole, and Belting Leather is well and most favorably known throughout all part of the United States, and exported to many foreign countries. The business has been in continuous operation in Bartholomew County, Indiana, for over three-quarters of a century, and is one of the leading and most prominent industries in the State of Indiana.
