Track History, The first important track meet ever held by Columbus High School took place at the fairgrounds May 26, 1917. This was solely an inter-class affair and was won by the Seniors, who through the efforts of Maynard and Cline, managed to secure 41 out of the 74 points awarded. As the participants had had but little experience or training, it was not a surprise that none of the world's records were broken; however, good time was made in several events. Besides the regular schedule, an exciting mile bicycle race was run, the winner being Francis Crump.
